  1. Thank you ,,
    Very clear tips ;)

  2. @ve3xj I’ve seen the same issue, as well as a problem with my GPS waypoints filling up if I go on a long drive. Haven’t gotten too deep into howto fix either error. The database error is fairly rare (once a trip maybe?) but the waypoint issue is pretty annoying. I just make sure to clear my GPS when I get home now.

  3. When I first fired up my D-710/Oregopn 450, there was no waypoint indication on the screen. I went to “GPS PORT” (Menu #602) and changed it from “OFF” to “WAYPOINT”. Hoowever, there is a minor inconveniience of a screen coming on form time to time stationg “Database Error” on the 450. So i have a bit more snooping around to do. Thanks for the video and encouraging me to finally get my 450 working with the D-710

  4. Thanks very much, as long as I know it’s possible, i.e. someone else has it working on the 450 I will double check my setup. I was not completely sure about the garmin proprietary setting. Thanks again.

  5. @mylhol hmm yes the 450 works the same way, a buddy in my 4wheeling group uses that GPS, he has the newest firmware as of december. He had a similar issue, I believe there is a setting on d710 that says waypoint. On the GPS, under system->interface Make sure that ‘WaypointIDs’ is set to Names and NMEA Sentances is On (garmin propretary on). Hope that helps!

  6. Hello,

I am trying to setup up my d710 in the same way you have your rig put together, I am able to get NMEA out from the Oregon 450, however I am having problems with NMEA in as there are no waypoints being created in the Oregon. I’ve gone over all the settings several times, I’m wondering what software version of the oregon you are using as I believe the capabilities of the 400 vs the 450 should be the same.

    thanks and 73,

    VA7MNH
